Men suffer at hands of thievesBy Chingford GuardianTWO workers in the car service industry have been injured in separate incidents by thieves who knocked them down as they sped away from the scenes of the crimes. The manager of a car appliance store received serious injuries when he was run over by crooks. Five fled Halford's on the Cork Tree Industrial Estate, Hall Lane, Chingford, at about 3.25pm on Tuesday, July 9, after stealing three socket sets worth about £65. The plucky manager chased the men to their car a silver/grey Renault estate managing to grab the man on the passenger side. The manager's arm, however, became trapped in the window and the driver sped off towards the Harvey's bed store. As the car crossed a speed hump in the road, the manager's arm was freed from the window, but the force threw him under the vehicle. He suffered a fractured ankle and shinbone and is expected to be off work for a long time. A police spokesman said: "This type of crime beggars belief. "This 30-year-old man is going to be off work for a long period of time and he will be left with some form of scarring for the rest of his life, all for £65." The five thieves are white and aged around 25. The man on the passenger side was around 6ft 4ins tall with short, light brown hair. He was wearing a yellow top. They left the scene in a silver/grey Renault saloon car with a registration number starting G820. If you have any information, contact DC Woodrow at the Leyton crimedesk on 8529 8666. In another incident, thieves left a petrol garage worker injured after driving their car into him on Friday. Two men drove into the Tesco petrol station in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, at 1.05pm and paid for £20 worth of petrol. When they returned to their vehicle, they put in another £7.44 worth and the assistant manager came running out of the kiosk. The two men jumped back in the car and sped off, colliding with the assistant in the process. He suffered injuries, though none was serious. The attackers were then seen driving their purple Ford Granada, registration J32OCNJ, in the direction of Whipps Cross Hospital. The driver was Asian, around 20, wearing a baseball cap and a jumper with writing on the front. The passenger was also Asian, around 20, wearing a grey 'beanie' hat and a sweater.
