Mum fined for stealing

By Wanstead and Woodford Guardian

A MOTHER-of-four was fined £55 and given 40 hours of community service after being found guilty of stealing from her employers.

Rashelle Gluckstein pleaded guilty to stealing £55 worth of mobile phone credit from Martins Newsagents, High Street, Barkingside, while working in the store as a sales assistant.

The court was told how the 34-year-old, of Barkingside High Road, would swipe her electronic top-up card through the machine without paying for the credit taken.

The thefts happened between March 27 and May 2 this year.

Ms Gluckstein was arrested on June 25 and charged with theft after the shop's manager contacted the police following the discovery of the theft.

The court was told that severe shortage of money and her efforts to keep in touch with her four children drove Ms Gluckstein to steal.

Defending lawyer David Charnley said: "She is petrified and awfully sorry for what happened but she was desperate to keep in touch with her four children, none of whom live with her, and serious monetary problems, pushed her into committing the offence."

Two of her four children from an ex boyfriend are in foster care. The remaining two from her ex-husband lives with his father and Ms Gluckstein's mother respectively.

The court also heard about Ms Gluckstein's difficult childhood which included leaving home at 15 and being forced to place her children in foster care after she split up with their father.

Mr Charnley added: " She is a woman of previous good character and has never had any convictions. Unfortunately, her desperation to be part of her childrens' lives dictated her actions on this particular occasion."s=10A MOTHER-of-four was fined £55 and given 40 hours of community service after being found guilty of stealing from her employer.o
