Gang of boys shoots at young girls with air rifles

By Walthamstow Guardian

A GROUP of girls some as young as nine were shot at by a gang of boys armed with air rifles.

The girls, aged from nine to 13, were playing in Bisterne Avenue park, Walthamstow, in broad daylight when a gang of boys peppered them with pellets for "disrespecting" them.

The girls ran for their lives as the gang gave chase and taunted them by shouting to each other 'which one shall we kill first?'

The terrified children ran to a nearby house and the owner managed to scare the armed boys away, a police spokesman said this week.

The incident happened at 5pm on Wednesday, August 28.

Two of the boys were carrying the air rifles, which can be bought legally by children over 16.

The rifles could have proven deadly if pointed at a person's eyes or ears.

The girls were left even more traumatised when one of the gang later posted a note through their letterbox that said 'Go to hell'. It had been made out of letters cut from newspaper headlines.

Police want to trace the gang of boys.

There were boys of all races in the gang, including one black boy with ginger hair who may be called Theo.

Another, who was also black, could be called Guy. All the boys were aged around 13.

A police spokesman said one of the gang had held a gun to the oldest girl's head, and a second boy fired shots as the girls fled in terror.

"They were obviously terrified. They tried to run away. As they were running away they heard several shots.

Nobody was hit by anything, but pellets were later found.

"The victims ran to the nearest house where they got a reply and the occupant came out and chased the boys off," said the spokesman.

Anyone with information can ring Leyton police on 8529 8666.
