Dealing with car crimeBy Epping GuardianA CLAMPDOWN on car crime is being led by police across the county. Epping Forest has long suffered from high levels of car crime and police from the division will be joining those from across Essex to stop those committing vehicle offences. Between August 2001 and August this year more than 13,000 vehicles were broken into and almost 10,000 were stolen or interfered with. Epping police are urging people to help them by shopping anonymously those they suspect of car crime, by ringing Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Callers can give information but do not have to leave names. Callers are given unique reference codes and may qualify for cash rewards. The campaign, launched on Monday, features bus, billboard and radio advertising backed by various initiatives across Essex. 12:09 Thursday 24th October 2002
