Dejected teen footballer went on mugging spreeBy Leyton and Leytonstone GuardianA PROMISING footballer who had his career cut short by injury embarked on a mugging spree out of frustration, a court heard last week. Sheraz Khan, 19, of Tyndall Road, Leyton, was sentenced to 18 months jail at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday after admitting robbing four men in less than two hours. Khan, who had a scholarship to a football academy after trials with Leyton Orient, punched one of his terrified victims in the head. The court heard how his dream of a career in professional football was snatched away after falling down stairs and damaging his hip. He was told he would never play again and became depressed in the period before the offences. Sentencing, Judge Timothy King said: "This is a sad day for you and your family. "I have heard a lot about you and I accept that your life has been in turmoil since the accident, preventing you playing football at what may have been a professional level by now." 15:39 Thursday 24th October 2002
