Police hurt by escaping driverBy Chingford GuardianA POLICE officer had to vault over a wall to avoid being mown down by a speeding joyrider in the Charlie Chan nightclub's car park in Walthamstow, on Friday, just before 5pm. The driver of the speeding BMW failed to stop at an accident earlier that day at the junction of Chingford Road and Walthamstow Avenue, when his vehicle collided with a police car, leaving two officers slightly injured. The BMW was later picked up on police CCTV cameras in Chingford Road and police gave chase. But when the 40-year-old police officer tried to stop the car on foot he was almost run over by the BMW. The officer was left with back injuries but did not need hospital treatment. A man was arrested later that evening after a second collision in Hall Lane, Chingford. A 30-year-old man from Ilford has been arrested for dangerous driving and failure to stop. 14:57 Tuesday 21st January 2003
