Man scarred by thievesBy Wanstead and Woodford GuardianA HAINAULT man was left with a six-inch long scar on his left cheek after he caught two thieves trying to steal his Mercedes Benz Van parked outside his house. The 40-year-old publican, from Tine Road, was alerted after the alarm went off in his van at about 12.05am on Sunday, January 12. He rushed out to find two black men attempting to open the front door with fake keys. He was slashed across the face as he confronted the two men, who later ran away. A police spokeswoman said: "Although his injury was not serious, he was taken to King George Hospital for a quick check-up." Both men were about 5ft 9ins tall. One of them was wearing a black leather jacket, while the other wore a dark hooded coat.
