Drug dealers targetedBy Wanstead and Woodford GuardianDRUG dealers will be targeted by Operation Crackdown, a new campaign launched last week by the Metropolitan Police. Under the slogan 'Stop the dealers, stop the crime,' the three-week campaign will feature posters and press advertisments calling on Londoners to help the police tackle the menace of Class A drugs and related crime. The hard hitting adverts will feature a heroin syringe and a crack bottle and will spell out the impact of drug crime in the capital. Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, head of the Met's specialist crime directorate said: "Information gathered as a result of our advertising campaign will assist police operational activity by enabling us to disrupt drug markets and arrest dealers and those that supply them." People with information about drug crime can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. 15:46 Thursday 23rd January 2003
