Fraudster's sob storyBy Wanstead and Woodford GuardianHOSPITAL chiefs and police officers are warning people that a fraudster is going from door to door in Ilford claiming to be collecting money for his sick sister. The man shows unsuspecting householders a compliment slip from the Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust and claims to have permission from a senior manager at King George Hospital to make the collection. Tugging on people's heart strings the man, who said his name was Kelly Jones on one occasion, gives his victims a sob story saying the money is in aid of his sister who has leukaemia and that the cash will grant her her wish of going to Disneyland. He has also approached local shopkeepers and businesses trying the same con-trick on them. But the NHS Trust wants to make clear that this man has nothing to do with King George Hospital and police are treating the matter as fraud. If any member of the public is approached by this man they should contact the police immediately. Anyone with information concerning the fraudster should call Ilford police station on 8478 1123. 15:36 Friday 24th January 2003
