CV liar prosecutedCOUNCILLORS have hailed a success their job candidates' vetting procedures after successfully prosecuting a man who lied on an application for a post with the council. Kehinde Ilembola was given a two-year conditional discharge by Waltham Forest magistrates after being caught providing a false employment history when he applied for a job at the council's call centre. A request for further documents uncovered that the 44-year-old had forged letters from the Inland Revenue. Liberal Democrat leader and cabinet member for corporate services Cllr Keith Rayner said: "This council has been vetting job applications very successfully for the past two years. "It is important we ensure all potential employees have given honest, accurate information on their experience and skills. "All successful applicants are vetted before a firm offer of employment is made." The council's vetting procedure verifies all the information provided by applicants. This includes checking their address, qualifications, business interests, employment history and any recent benefit claims. A total of 509 vettings were carried our during 2002, and 28 of these required further investigations. 22:07 Sunday 13th April 2003
