The woman in black

In 1622 a witch was blamed for much of the suffering that went on in and around the area now known as Hadley Wood, Enfield, particularly illnesses that occurred.

It is now known that much of this inexplicable illness and wasting was as a result of the Plague. However, the woman in question was executed and it is her apparition that still frequents the area.

She has been described as a stooped and gnarled old hag, dressed in black and hobbling along slowly and painfully.
