Posh and Becks look for new pad

HELICOPTERS could fill the skies over Sawbridgeworth after the town's celebrity residents David and Victoria Beckham submitted plans for a helipad in the grounds of their Harlow Road home, 'Beckingham Palace'.

The England footballer and his Spice Girl wife, who live at Rowenbury House with their three-year-old son, Brooklyn, also want to erect fencing on the east side of Harlow Road.

Sawbridgeworth town council planning committee chairman Robin Davidson said: "The only concern is the noise but I don't think the helipad itself is an issue and I don't think it will have any impact on the area.

"What is more of a problem is all the media helicopters buzzing around and not actually the Beckhams themselves."

However, nearby residents have mixed feelings over the impact the helipad would have on the area if planning permission is granted.

Tony Brinn, 59, who lives in Honeymeade, said: "When they had the (World Cup) party there was a helicopter and it was really noisy. It will have a really big impact on the area if given the go-ahead."

David Jacob, 54, of Rowney Cottages, said: "I'm more worried about the effect it will have on the wildlife. We used to get deer, foxes and badgers in our garden but their natural habitat is being affected. I think that's disgraceful.

"Over the last 12 months they have inflicted quite a lot on the local people and I don't think they should keep disrupting the community."

Fellow Honeymeade resident Margaret Chambers, 72, said: "We get helicopters flying around here all day taking photos anyway so it's not really going to worry us."

Mandy Wood, 39, whose back garden backs on to the Beckhams' estate, said: "It depends on how many times it's in operation and how often it is used during the day. I can imagine it will be very noisy but there are so many aeroplanes going over to Stansted anyway. It's just one of those things that you would probably get used to in time."

Another neighbour added: "I don't care what they do. If they enjoy spending their money let them spend it. Just let them get on with it."
