Arnhem group in search for pilot

By Leyton and Leytonstone Guardian

THE Battle of Arnhem Research Group is looking for the family of a Leyton airman who was killed in action during the Second World War.

Flight Sergeant Robert Walter Forrest, who was married to Vera Constance, died on September 21, 1944, when the plane he was flying was shot down.

The crew had been dropping supplies for the surrounded airborne troops at Osterbeek and Arnhem when it went down.

A school now stands on the crash site, and staff and children would like to hold a service to commemorate the dead heroes. The group would like anyone with information on F/Sgt Forrest to contact them. Anyone with information can email [email protected]

Philip Reinders, from the research group, said: "We want to hold a little memorial this coming September by placing two frames in the school which will hold information about the crew and what happened to them.

"For this, we would like to find out as much about the crew as we can and we also hope to get a picture of the crew to be placed in the frame."
