Billericay Town FCFormed in 1880 Billericay Town (nickname The Blues or The Town) is one of the oldest clubs in Essex and play in the premier division of the Ryman League. Billericay has enjoyed the sweet smell of success in a number of cup competitions including the FA Vase which they have won on three occasions (the only club to achieve this). In 1997/98 Billericay made it the first round of the FA Cup where they lost 3-2 to Wisbech Town. Billericay joined the Romford and district league in 1890 and progressed through local leagues including the Mid Essex, Southern Essex Combination and Essex Senior leagues to the Athenian League in 1977. They won the Essex Senior League on three occasions and were runners up twice, also winning the league cup four times. The club won the Athenian championship in successive seasons in 1977/78 and 1978/79. After reaching the premier division of the Isthmian League in 1981/82 Billericay were relegated to the first division in 1986 and slumped to the second division in two years later. The club recovered and, in 1991/92, achieved promotion to division one. They advanced to the top flight in 1998.
