Canvey Island FC

Canvey Island FC were formed in 1926 (their nickname is the Gulls).

In recent years the club has acquired a considerable reputation as cup fighters culminating in an appearance in the third round of the FA Cup in 2001/02 where they lost to Burnley.

In 2000/01 the club made it to the first round of the cup before losing to Southend United, a game played at Southend's Roots Hall ground in front of an 11,000 crowd.

The Gulls won the FA Umbro Trophy in 2000/01.

They reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase in 1992/93 and were quarter finalists in 1994/95 and

1995/96.

Following overall victory in the Essex Senior Cup in 1998/99 and 1999/2000 Canvey were runners up in this competition in 2001/02.

After winning the Essex Senior League in 1993 Canvey gained promotion from Isthmian League division three in 1994/95 and division two in 1995/96.

The club were promoted to the premier division in 1998/99.

The Gulls narrowly missed out on promotion to the Nationwide Conference in 2001/02 when they

finished as runners up to Gravesend.
