Bishop’s Stortford FCFormed in 1874 Bishop's Stortford FC (known as both Blues or Bishops) were promoted to the Ryman league premier division in 2001/02. The club has the proud boast of never having lost a game at Wembley. After competing in the Spartan League, Delphian League and Athenian League (champions in 1965/66) Bishop's Stortford were accepted into the Isthmian league in 1971/72. The early 1970s were a highly successful period for the club culminating in the trophy-laden season of 1973/74 when Blues carried off the Herts Charity cup, London Senior cup, Herts Senior cup and, best of all, the FA Amateur cup beating Ilford 4-1 at Wembley in front of over 30,000 spectators. After a quiet period, during which Blues were relegated to division one of the Isthmian league, the club enjoyed another memorable season in 1980/81 achieving a notable double of being division one champions and winning the FA Trophy beating Sutton United in the final. In the eighties and nineties Blues experienced both premier and division one football. After a three year spell in division one promotion to the top flight of the Ryman league was secured on 6 April 2002 with a 2-0 victory over Walton & Hersham. Blues left their old Rhodes Avenue ground in 1997 and, after a period on the road finally settled into their new home at Woodside Park in July 1999. Bishop's Stortford FC can now be found at Woodside Park, Dunmow Road, Bishop's Stortford. Tel: 01279 306456. 12:41 Friday 16th August 2002
