Grays Athletic 1-0 Billericay TownGrays all but secured Premier Division status for another season with this hard-fought win over improving Billericay Town. The visitors had have a hugely depleted squad to choose from in recent weeks but have carved out the necessary results to maintain their mid-table berth. Athletic, disappointing for large parts of the season, almost took the lead when former Stevenage Borough man Robin Trott's header hit the crossbar on 38 minutes. Poor passing prevented the hosts from advancing significantly into the Billericay half after the restrart, but they finally carved out the winner when Peter Smith punted in a cross from the right that Carl Leaburn headed home on 66 minutes. Adam Smith saw Billericay keeper Jerome John in good form after that as the visitors went down to their most uninspiring defeat of recent months. The season's end can probably not come quick enough for either of these sides who face a likely flurry of transfer movement in the summer. 16:58 Sunday 27th April 2003
