Braintree Town 1-0 Ford UnitedBraintree secured Premier Division status for a third successive season with this victory over Ford United. Louis Riddle's winning goal 5 minutes from time was just reward for a strong second half showing in which they often pressured their tough-tackling opponents. London outfit United went closest in the first half when former Yeovil man Glenn Poole send a stunning drive from the edge of the box that Paul Catley was equal to. The remainder of the half offered up very little excitement for the Cressing Road faithful, but Braintree gradually asserted themselves on the game in the second period with Tommy Noble and Paul Cobb both misfiring in front of goal with only Phil Wilson to beat. Ford were content to keep the ball in the midfield and play out for a draw, but slipped-up late on as the ball squirted out to the flanks. Dean Parratt flicked it across from the right and Riddle stooped to secure all three points and Premier Division survival, in a season where financial impositions have made this achievement much more than just a preservation of league status. 17:04 Sunday 27th April 2003
