Consultation meetings over airport expansion

RESIDENTS in east Herts worried about the threat of an expanding Stansted Airport will get the chance to have their say on the Government's new consultation document at two public meetings in April.

The meetings, organised by East Herts Council in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, are at County Hall, Pegs Lane, Hertford, at 7pm on Thursday, April 10; and at the Charis Centre, Water Lane, Bishop's Stortford, at 7pm on Monday, April 14.

East Herts Council's planning and property executive member Duncan Peek said: "The council is disappointed that the Government has not taken this new opportunity to rethink the proposed development at Stansted, instead of just adding the option of expansion at Gatwick to the consultation.

"Backed by the support of our residents we will continue to work within the consortium of Hertfordshire and Essex County Councils to lobby and campaign at Westminster to ensure the longer term and national view is taken on board in the forthcoming legislation."
