The best of the best

By Guardian reporter

DAVENANT Foundation School in Loughton has chosen its new head prefects, from a field of over 140 students.

Lucy Johnson, 17, from Loughton, and Andrew Webster, 17, from Waltham Abbey, now lead a team of 70 prefects and 14 senior prefects performing a range of duties.

They were nominated by students and staff. A shortlist of six was interviewed by headteacher Chris Seward, head of sixth form Mark Quinn and John Padfield, the school governor with responsibilities for the sixth form.

Andrew, a former pupil of Nazeing Primary School, has captained the rugby side and plays the trumpet in several of the schools bands and orchestras. He studies history, maths, physics and business studies.

Lucy went to St John Fisher School, Loughton, before moving to Davenant where she has captained the hockey and netball teams. She studies history, English, theatre studies and RE.

Mr Seward said: "Both have given so much to the school over the past six years. This is an honour they richly deserve. The appointment panel was very impressed by their maturity and energy, and we look forward to an exciting and successful year from them."
