Training success

By Guardian reporter

THANKS to a band of enthusiastic and dedicated computing lecturers and students, Epping Forest College can announce its coming of age as a Cisco training academy.

Cisco training is now incorporated into all advanced full time vocational computing courses at the Loughton college.

The training is organised by the multi-national computer company Cisco Corporation and lecturers Peter Holliman and Antonio Ramos have succeeded in passing all the examinations meaning they can now deliver and run the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualification.

Having qualified, the lecturers next task was to build a Cisco Lab. A room was offered, equipment purchased and further help to construct the lab came from National Diploma IT students Michael Barnwell, Andrew Hails, Gwyn Rees and Stephen Townrow.

Under the direction of the lecturers the students put in many hours and gained valuable hands on experience and have used this to complete part of their Diploma.

The next stage is to offer the CCNA qualification to adults in the wider community who want to progress their IT careers as technicians or network administrators.

This is just the start of a whole suite of courses leading to professional IT Practitioner qualifications that the College plans to offer soon.

Cisco communications and networking hardware systems are used extensively to run the Internet and other large networks. For more details, email pholliman @epping-forest.ac.uk or ring 020 8508 8311.
