Gang steals jewellery

FOUR crooks posing as Thames Water officials stole jewellery from a house in Walthamstow.

The gang of three men and a woman knocked on the door of the house in Poplars Road saying that they needed to check fittings in the kitchen.

Although they wore no uniform and had no identification, the gang were allowed into the house, where three of them managed to distract the three occupants while the other ransacked one of the bedrooms.

The gang left the house with three rings, which were described as being of Asian design and influence. They also stole two gold necklaces, which too were of Asian design.

The woman is described as being of oriental appearance. She was around 43, 4ft 6ins tall and wore a blue jumper and trousers. She had grey hair and a ponytail. She also had a scar on her nose and a blemish on her right cheek.

The other three are described only as white men, aged 21 to 25.

Witnesses to the incident on Monday, September 8, at 5.50pm should contact Leyton police on 8529 8666.
