TWO women in their 90s have been left devastated after thieves stole large amounts of cash after conning their way into their homes.
In the first incident, on Tuesday, September 23, 2,000 was taken from one elderly woman's Leytonstone home.
The cash and a handbag were snatched from her house in Cheneys Road after she let in a man who convinced her that there had been a water leak further up the street and he needed to check her water pressure.
He turned on her taps and then said he needed to go into the back garden.
When the woman came back into the house from the garden she saw a second man in her front room.
After both men had left the house, the pensioner realised her bag and the cash were missing.
The first man is described as white, 24, 5ft 8ins tall, with short black hair, slim build and an Irish accent. He was wearing a shirt and black trousers. The second is also white, 24, 5ft 3ins tall and also had short black hair.
In a second incident, another woman in her nineties was left in shock when 1,000 was stolen from her home after a man conned his way into her house.
He claimed he was from a water company and asked to go into the kitchen of her Billet Road house in Walthamstow on Friday, September 26, at 10.30am.
The woman showed him underneath her sink and while the man distracted her, a second man let himself into her home, ransacked her bedroom, and stole the cash.
The first man is described as white, approximately 25-years-old, 6ft 1ins tall with short dark brown hair, and a stocky build.
The second conman was also white, 25, 6ft tall and had light brown short hair.
Police are warning people not to let doorstep callers into their home and always ask for identification before letting anyone inside.
