<< Back to index Target number of signitures reached for broadband installationThe 21st century is coming to Bovingdon this Christmas as the campaign to install broadband in the village has reached the target number of signatures required to install the service.
Residents interested in the service were encouraged to pre-register with the requirement of names intially standing at 300.
However, MP for South West Hertfordshire, Richard Page and a broadband committee from Bovingdon lobbied the chairman of BT and the number was subsequently reduced to 250.
Mr Rod Latham, one of the key figures behind the campaign, believes there are two categories who will be helped by broadband children who use it at school and will now be able to continue their learning at home and small businesses in the village who are affected by the slow speed of the internet or the call fees.
He said: "Now we have reached the trigger level, the next stage is for a BT engineer to assess the exchange to see how much it will cost to operate.
"They have given us the date Wednesday, December 17, to start working on the upgrade, which is quicker than we expected an early Christmas present for the village."
